Meaning of Supplication (Dua): The Quranic View – Ejaz Rasool, 19 Dec 2021 – Tolu e Islam

In this video

This presentation covers a number of aspects of Dua (Supplication) as referred in the Quran. The verse (2:186) is used to define Dua and then various verses are explained briefly to expand on its meaning. Following is the outline of this presentation:
1. Root of Dua
2. Main Verse (2:186)
3. Root of Rushd
4. The world created by the human intellect and desires (2021)
5. Dua helps to signpost the cross roads of our life
6. Various verses on different aspects of Dua
7. Two fundamentals of human desire in relation to Dua
8. Conclusions
Dua means to call out or draw the attention of someone. The verse (2:186) explains its basic and states:
‘When My servants ask you concerning Me, I am indeed close: I listen to the supplication of every supplicant when he calls on Me: Let them also, with a will, listen to My call: and have Eimaan in Me: that they walk on the path of Rushd.’
Here Allah has explained the meaning of Dua by stating that if human beings wish to get closer to Allah, they what they need to do is pay attention to the guidance given in the Quran and through this guidance come to the path of Righteousness after acquiring Eimaan. This is the only way to be closer to Allah – they need to keep in mind that Allah is with every human being, hence they do not have to go to Him. Rest of the Quran provides the details of this guidance.
A number of verses are quoted and explained to elaborate the term Dua – it is not about begging from anyone. The root of Dua explains its various aspects and for more detail we can look into the Lughat ul Quran. Following references can help to study more on this aspect:
1. The Book of Destiny, G. A. Parwez
2. Mutalib ul Furqan, Volume 3, Verse (2:186), G. A. Parwez
3. Lughat ul Quran, G. A. Parwez
4. Tabweeb ul Quran, G. A. Parwez

Dua helps us to bring out our desire and the drive behind it to get things done in our life in this world. We first acquire Eimaan and then through Dua we get guidance from the Quran and create a motivation and drive within us to do Saleh deeds. This helps to develop our self towards the system of Deen. Merely supplicating can never bring change in our life and the outer world unless we go out and take practical actions in life.
